An activity done by primary students at Pulaski Elementary, Somerset, KY

On February 18, 1997 Mrs. Rogers' class went to the Kroger store at Grand Central Place in Somerset, Ky. Each goup of students had planned a nutritious meal and, at the store, they shopped for items needed to prepare this meal. When they had found everything then checked out and "paid" for their purchase with play money. Employees in the store then returned all the items to the shelves and the students took a guided tour of the store. Below are some pictures taken at the store and some of the pieces the students wrote about their experience.

My class went on a field trip to Kroger. We had an assignment to do. We were supposed to have a nutritious meal planned. Then our groups would have fake $20.00 and find our meal together. We paid for it then waited for everyone else to pay for theirs. Next, we got to tour Krogers. We got to try kiwi, ugly fruit and pineapples. Also, we got to eat chocolate chip cookies. Then we left.

The field trip to Krogers was great! The part I liked best was when we got to shop!
After we shopped we got a tour around the store. When we shopped we had $20.00 to spend. Some people went over their list!
We went to Krogers because we were studying foods that are good for you. We were to buy nutritious foods. I think it was a good trip!

When my class went to Krogers, we got to buy food for a nutritious meal. We had lots of fun. Two workers took us on a tour and we got to see how they ground beef and we got free samples. We also got cookies from the bakery.
