KMEA Choral Festival
The Pulaski Elementary School Chorus attended their first ever KMEA (Kentucky Music Education Association) Choral Festival receiving the highest overall score possible, "Distinguished". The 70 members of the group were chosen by audition and they range in grades from kindergarten through 5th grade. The event was held a Brock Auditorium, EKU, Richmond, Kentucky, on April 9. The adjudication involved four very diverse choral selections, in Latin and English, in two- and three-part harmony, with piano accompaniment and a cappella. Wowing the judges was Kelly Eaton, an eleven-year-old fifth grader, who sang an introductory a cappella verse of sixteen measures maintaining perfect pitch and key. She is the daughter of Kenny and Connie Eaton of Somerset. Two full buses transported the 70 members and chaperones, with a large motorcade of parents and grandparents following. Two fathers, Richard Abbott and Max Flaskamp, drove ahead transporting and setting up all equipment. The grandmother of Seth Haynes, Marilynn Claunch, who just happened to have a needle and thread, sewed a probable 20 brass buttons back onto jackets as the children seemed to twist them off. Marilynn saved the day! Dress of the group consisted of a royal blue blazer sporting a gold "mustang" horse applique. The fabric for the blazers was donated by the PTA and they were all made by Diana Bray of Somerset. The outfit was completed with white skirts or trousers and the girls wore large gold hairbows. Last September members elected officers to help make group decisions, assist with paperwork, and run errands. President was Kristin Cain, Vice-president was Kelly Eaton, Secretary/Treasurer was Amy Wright and Sgt. at Arms was Jonathan Hill. Betty Ridner, mother of Jaime Ridner, assisted with paperwork during the year. The group is under the direction of June Correll. Also attending the festival was Marlene Haney, Principal.
